Walker Business Leaders Toastmasters Club
Walker Business Leaders Toastmasters was established by and for business owners and entrepreneurs who understand the vital role that effective communication plays in the success of their enterprises. Named after the pioneering African American entrepreneur and civic leader from Richmond, Virginia, Maggie Lena Walker, who broke traditional gender and discriminatory laws by becoming the first woman of any race to establish and become president of a bank in the United States, our club embodies the spirit of innovation and resilience that she championed. Recognizing that the challenges faced by business leaders are often unique, our club uses traditional Toastmasters principles to emphasize the specific public speaking skills and strategies that can propel businesses forward. We foster an environment where members can enhance their speaking abilities while also addressing the pressing issues that entrepreneurs encounter on their journey.
In our meetings, we not only focus on honing presentation skills but also provide a platform for discussing the nuances of entrepreneurship, from practicing pitching ideas to finding speaking opportunities to engage authentically with your audience. Our goal is to empower local business owners with the confidence and tools they need to articulate their vision and connect with their audiences effectively. If you are a local business owner seeking to elevate your public speaking, we invite you to reach out. About Our Founding President
Our founding president, Trevina Jefferson, overcame nearly 20 years of anxiety and fear when speaking in front of groups without the aid of a PowerPoint presentation, which had hindered her career progression and business growth. After trying various speaking groups where she struggled to feel prepared or comfortable, she realized in late 2023 that many other business owners might face similar challenges. This insight inspired the creation of the Walker Business Leaders Toastmasters Club, which quickly gained traction, earning support from dignitaries and media coverage within its first few months.

The Appeal of the Food Truck
For many chefs and food lovers, starting a food truck offers flexibility, freedom, and the chance to test their concept with minimal investment. They’re also mobile, allowing owners to shift locations based on foot traffic,…
Design for Business Growth: Why Corporate Strategy Matters at Every Stage
Growing your business requires more than just marketing. While marketing is essential for visibility and engagement, many small businesses and nonprofits focus so heavily on it that they neglect critical internal functions necessary for long-term sustainability.
